Being a mom for the first time is so scary!! There is so much you don’t know, and the more prepared you get more fears get unlocked.
There is a plethora of products that a newborn need, but there are some items that can make your life less complicated. These are some of the products that I have loved and have no idea how I would manage without them.
Newborn Essentials
This burp cloths are amazing! They are super absorbent and they come in 3 colors, white, blue and pink. I have tried other brands of burp cloths and none of them are as soft and absorbent as this one, and boy do you need several.
Babies’ nails grown sooo fast!! I never in my life thought I was going to be trimming my babies nails so often, and the idea of using nail clippers in their tiny little fingers gave me the heebie jeebies. Enter this amazing nail file that works with batteries, it comes with different levels of file and the one for newborns is so soft that it doesn’t hurt their little fingers, but it gets the job done.
The Dock a tot has changed my life! If I am downstairs and need to bring my baby with me, I can put her there and she stays calm while I need to do something around the house. Because it is narrow, she feels snuggled and cozy and sometimes even make her sleepy. She has used to for a couple of naps and loves it.
Also it is so easy to move around the house depending on what room you need to be in, it has really been amazing.
Disclaimer: It is not recommended for babies to sleep in it, however short naps are ok as long as you are keeping an eye on them. Never to be left unattended.
This is amazing!! My baby takes medicine for reflux so I was giving it to her in a bottle, the problem was that the nipple would get sometimes clogged due to the thickness of the medicine. It was so frustrating for my baby since she wanted to keep sucking and I had to keep shaking it to fix the problem. Thank God my husband found this, and it changed medicine time, now I just use the syringe and attach it to the pacifier, and boom! She sucks all the medicine! So easy!
This is by now I think I must for every mom in America, the normal snot suckers suck!! They are so hard to use, and I feel like it hurts the little baby’s nostril. This one on the other hand goes right outside the nose and you can see all the gunk that’s coming out of your babies’ nose, it is oddly satisfying. Don’t worry, you won’t accidentally inhale anything since there is a stopper that has that precise job. Babies have tons of very liquid boogers so this is a must!!
A saline mist is necessary for a newborn, they get stuffy and runny noses all the time, and since they can’t blow their own noses, mommy needs to come in with the heavy artillery. This saline mist paired with the Nose Frida Snot Sucker, is the bomb. You spray this into your baby’s nose and immediately after suck everything out.
Be sure to cover your baby’s eyes with a little towel while you use it since my baby snore afterwards spraying it and goes everywhere including her eyes.
Unlike the Nose Frida snot sucker, the Oogie bear is wonderful for also taking out boogers, the only difference is that it is a little bit less invasive. This is for all the boogers you can see inside their noses, there is no need to suck so you can just insert the oogie bear in the nostril and dig out the booger. This is also a satisfying task and becomes like digging a cave game in mind lol, it just feels like a win when you get that booger bastard. There is also nothing to worry about poking too far inside your babies’ nose, since it has a stopper on both ends. This is also made for earwax that is sticking right out of their ears.
This sleeping sack is fantastic! My baby loves sleeping with her arms up and in a normal swaddle they are tucked in, so the only option is to swaddle her with her arms out, the problem is that newborns have a Moro or “startle” reflex, (they move their arms in their sleep and wake up startled because of the movement) which would wake her up constantly and sometimes not be able to go to sleep. Enter this lovely sleeping sack that is the right amount of tight on the body AND can have her arms up! I love it! I ended up using it also for naps and not just at night.
It is recommended to wait to bathe your baby until the umbilical cord has fallen out, in the meantime the way to have your baby clean is to use a micellar water. This one by Mustela is specifically designed for babies, with avocado and aloe. You just grab a cotton ball and clean all the baby folds and areas when the baby needs it the most, it is safe for face, body and diaper.
These wipes were the only ones my pediatrician recommended since they are hypoallergenic and the only ingredient they have is WATER. All the fragrance and ingredient’s other wipes have are not necessary, especially for a newborn. So, these are the ones I’ve been using and have no complaints at all, they do their job perfectly.
I don’t know about you, but I hate having my fingers dirty with cream and all of it going into my nails. The idea of having a brush to apply any cream into my baby’s butt was incredible, and now that I use it every day, I am telling you, I cannot live without it. We had to take a trip and I bought an extra one to carry with me, it is that good. You never have to dirty your finger and fingernails ever again, and you also take care of your baby’s bum.
Don’t be like me, and buy 2 from the beginning to have one in your diaper bag at all times.
White noise is essential yo help newborns fall asleep, this lamp has white noise and so many other sounds and color lighting options. I also like the fact that you can connect it through Bluetooth and change the sound, volume and color, even the intensity of the color without ever touching the lamp. My baby loves it, and it is a perfect investment since she will be able to use it forever not just as a baby.
